Roller wins women's portion of Colby Golf Invitational

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Bates sophomore Whitney Roller won medalist honors at the Colby Women's Golf Invitational Saturday at Waterville Country Club. Meanwhile on the men's side, Bates took third place in a tightly packed match with Bowdoin and Colby.
Roller (Haverford, Pa.) scored 17 points in the modified Stableford scoring system employed at the tournament (+8 eagle, +4 birdie, +2 par, +1 bogey), edging Colby's Andrea Heidt (16) and Meridith Carden (5).
The Bates men, playing in a scramble format, scored a 59, just behind Bowdoin (54) and Colby (58). Competing for the Bobcats were sophomore Kurt Schuler (Windham, N.H.), first-year Mike Kelen (Baltimore, Md.), first-year John Canney (North Clarendon, Vt.), junior Jeremy Rogalski (West Springfield, Mass.) and junior Tom Bowden (Falmouth, Maine).
Bates plays at the Husson Invitational tomorrow.
