AUBURN, Maine -- Bates College won its fourth CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) Men's Golf Championship in the past six years Sunday at Martindale Country Club, nipping Bowdoin by two strokes, 414 to 416, while Colby came in third at 460.
In head-to-head women's golf competition, also at Martindale on Sunday, Bates defeated Bowdoin with a score of 374 to the Polar Bears' 431, with the top four performances counting toward their teams' totals.
Taking the best five scores, the Bates men came in at 414 behind a 77 from junior Kurt Schuler and a 78 by Lee Smith. Senior Tom Bowden was third for Bates with an 84, while Mike Kelen shot an 87 and senior Jeremy Rogalski carded an 88.
Bowdoin's Kevin Smith earned medalist honors with a 77, followed by Turner Kufe (81), Jimmy Herter (84), Zac Kubetz (85) and James Yoo (89).
Sam Rouleau led third-place Colby by shooting an 84.
Bates first-year Mimi Neal (Danvers, Mass.) led the Bobcat women's golfers with an 86, earning medalist honors ahead of Bowdoin's Libby Barton (90). Libby King (South Portland, Maine) was second for Bates and third overall with a 94, while senior captain Liz Wilcox (South Glastonbury, Conn.) came in at 96 and first-year Brigid Dunn (Milford, Ohio) shot a 98. Keely Keegler was Bowdoin's second best player for the day with a 99.
