BELGRADE LAKES, Maine -- Playing in the UMF Invitational, Bates College's golf team earned a head-to-head win in women's play over host UMaine-Farmington, while on the men's side the Bobcats placed eighth out of 11 teams.
The Bates women cruised past the host Beavers in head-to-head play by a score of 128-162, led by first-year medalist Brigid Dunn (Milford, Ohio), who fired a 41. First-year Mimi Neal (Danvers, Mass.) came in right behind Dunn and second overall with a 42, and senior Liz Wilcox (South Glastonbury, Conn.) was third overall with a 45. Sophomore Libby King (South Portland, Maine) shot a 53.
The Bates men received a round of 83 from sophomore John Canney (North Clarendon, Vt.), leading the Bobcats to a four-man combined score of 368 for eighth place. Senior Tom Bowden (Falmouth, Maine) shot a 91 and senior Mark DelGiudice (Bedford, N.H.) carded a 96 for Bates. Senior Sam Kaplan (Katonah, N.Y.) and sophomore Keegan Runnals (Wolfeboro, N.H.) both shot 98's.
Bates will compete at the Maine Intercollegiate Championship this weekend at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro, starting Friday.
