WATERVILLE, Maine -- Bates College's golf team finished second with the among seven teams in the Sid Farr Invitational, hosted by Colby College at Waterville Country Club on Saturday.
Bates first-year Lee Smith (Lexington, Mass.), coming off of his all-conference performance at last week's NESCAC Golf Qualifier, led the Bobcats with a 79, scoring nine points in the tournament's Stableford scoring system. Bates collected 32 points in all, behind first-place Husson (58), tied with Southern Maine and ahead of Bowdoin (25), the University of New England (22), Colby (7) and UMaine-Presque Isle (-11). The Bobcats earned second place ahead of Southern Maine by virtue of a lower gross team score.
Senior captain Jeremy Rogalski (West Springfield, Mass.) scored eight points while shooting 82 in stroke score. Junior Kurt Schuler (Windham, N.H.) scored 7 points, while sophomore Mike Kelen (Baltimore, Md.) added five and senior Tom Bowden (Falmouth, Maine) scored three.
Bates will be looking for its fourth CBB golf title in the six years when it hosts Colby and Bowdoin in the CBB Championship tomorrow at Martindale Golf Club in Auburn.
