Men's golf places 18th in Division III at NEIGA Championships





BREWSTER, Mass. -- The Bates men's golf team concluded the fall season on Tuesday at the 76th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships, a two-day tournament held at Captains Golf Course. Limited to the minimum four players, the Bobcats finished 35th out of 37 teams overall, and 18th among Division III squads, with a two-day total score of 703.

Senior captain Mike Kelen (Baltimore, Md.) led the Bobcats with a two-day score of 169, or 25 over par, at the par 72 course, tying with eight other players for 127th place out of 182 players. Kelen shot an 82 on Tuesday, five strokes better than his Monday performance.

Senior Andy Steiker-Epstein (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed his team-best 84 on Monday with an 88 on Tuesday, finishing in a four-way tie for 144th overall at 172. Sophomore Jared Quenzel (West Hartford, Conn.) carded a 176, tied for 160th, and senior captain John Canney (North Clarendon, Vt.) checked in at 186.
