BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Senior captain Brigid Dunn tied for second place, just a stroke off of the overall lead, as the Bates women's golf team started off the 2011 season at the Bowdoin Blast, played at Brunswick Golf Club on Sunday.

The event included players from Southern Maine and St. Anselm, and also constituted a head-to-head match between the top four players from Bates and Bowdoin. Bowdoin prevailed in the head-to-head scoring, 375 to 400.

Dunn (Milford, Ohio) fired a 41 on the back nine, the lowest nine-hole score of the day, to surge into a tie with Bowdoin's Taylor Guiffre at 93, right behind Bowdoin's Kendall Kyritz (92).

Fellow senior captain Tessa Pals (Wilmette, Ill.) carded a 96 to tie for sixth place among the 14 players, and senior captain Mimi Neal (Danvers, Mass.) shot a 100 to take eighth place. Senior Libby King (South Portland, Maine) came in 11th with a 111 score.

The Bates women return to action this weekend, Sept. 17-18, for the Maine State Women's Championship, to be held at Valhalla Golf Course in Cumberland.
