MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. -- The Bates men's golf team finished in seventh place at the NESCAC Men's Golf Qualifier for the second straight year, tying this time with Tufts for the seventh spot among 10 teams.
Sophomore Garrett Johnson (Lexington, Mass.) and junior Jared Quenzel (West Hartford, Conn.) tied for Bates' team lead with two-day combined scores of 155 at par-72 Lyman Orchards Golf Club, putting them in a four-way tie for the 24th best score among 50 competitors. Johnson fired an even-par 72 on Sunday, the team's best round in the tournament.
Junior Corey Gingras (Eastford, Conn.) and first-year Garret Bonney (Sudbury, Mass.) came in at 158 and 165, respectively, for 32nd place and a tie for 43rd for Bonney.
Williams won the event at 586, two strokes ahead of Trinity (588). The Ephs have now earned the right to host the 2012 NESCAC Golf Championship, to be held April 28-29.

Jared Quenzel and Corey Gingras each shot a 5-over-par 77 on the first day of the 2011 NESCAC Men's Golf Championship Qualifier at Lyman Orchards Golf Club, leading the Bobcats to seventh place.
Quenzel shot a 39 on the front nine and a 38 on the back, while Gingras tied for the sixth-best back-nine score of the day among 50 players, shooting a 35 after his front-nine 42. Gingras and Quenzel are currently in a four-way tie for 20th place individually.
Garrett Johnson and Garret Bonney rounded out Bates' scoring at 83 and 84, good for 39th and 41st places, respectively.
