Neal is women's medalist at Maine State Golf Championships

CUMBERLAND, Maine -- Senior captain Mimi Neal won the individual title at the inaugural Maine State Women's Golf Championships on Sunday at Val Halla Golf Course, as the Bates women's golf team finished second to Bowdoin in the team scoring.

Neal (Danvers, Mass.) outshot the runner-up, Bowdoin's Kendall Kyritz, by eight strokes, following up her Saturday score of 89 with the lowest round of the two-day tournament, an 85, on Sunday.

Bowdoin's top four outscored Bates' top four by a 745 to 786 score for the team state title.

Senior captain Brigid Dunn (Milford, Ohio) carded a 186, powered by a 91 on Sunday. Senior captain Tessa Pals (Wilmette, Ill.) fired a 201, and senior Libby King (South Portland, Maine) shot a 225.

The Bates women next hold a team scramble on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Martindale Country Club in Auburn.
