BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates men's golf team tied with UMaine-Farmington for eighth place among 10 teams competing at the two-day Bowdoin Invitational, which concluded Saturday at Brunswick Country Club.
Bates had a four-man, two-day team score of 665, including an improvement of 17 strokes from the first day to the second, to move into a tie with the Beavers for eighth. Williams won the event at 606, followed by Husson at 620, St. Anselm at 624, Endicott at 636, Southern Maine at 638, Tufts at 659, Bates and UMF at 665 and St. Joseph's at 701.
Senior captain Jared Quenzel's (West Hartford, Conn.) second-day score of 76 lifted him into a four-way tie for 14th place among 57 golfers overall, along with Porter Gervais of Husson, Bobby Kaminski of Bowdoin and Orion Cochran of Farmington.
Sophomore Garret Bonney (Sudbury, Mass.) went seven strokes under his first-day score with a 79 on Saturday to finish second for the Bobcats at 165. Senior Corey Gingras (Eastford, Conn.) carded a 167 and sophomore Garrett Johnson (Lexington, Mass.) shot a 176.
Bates will play a dual match against UMF on Thursday at Sunday River Golf Club in Bethel, beginning at 10am.
