ORONO, Maine -- Senior captain Jared Quenzel tied for 13th place among 45 competitors, leading the Bates men's golf team Saturday as the Bobcats placed seventh among eight teams at the Husson Invitational at Penobscot Valley Country Club.
Bates shot a four-man score of 343, trailing sixth-place Colby by six strokes and leading Maine Maritime by six more strokes. The host Eagles won the tournament at 307.
Quenzel (West Hartford, Conn.) shot an 81 at the par 72, 6,442-yard course, tying for 13th with Bobby Kaminski of Bowdoin, Taggie Martin of Colby and Alton Simokaitis of Southern Maine.
Senior Corey Gingras (Eastford, Conn.) tied for 25th place with an 85. Junior Garrett Johnson (Lexington, Mass.) and sophomore Garret Bonney (Sudbury, Mass.) rounded out Bates' scoring at 88 and 89, respectively. Senior Kevin Shaughnessy (Ridgefield, Conn.) carded a 92.
The Bobcats next play at the Maine State Championships, to be held Sept. 22-23 at Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland.
