ORONO, Maine -- Senior captain Garrett Johnson and first-year Alex Stekler shared the team lead as the Bates men's golf team finished 10th at the Husson Invitational, which was cut short by weather on Sunday. Saturday's first round now stands as the final result in the planned two-day tournament.
The Bobcats combined to shoot a 367, just a stroke shy of St. Joseph's, three behind Thomas (364) and five behind UMPI (362). The host Eagles won the tournament at 306, followed by Endicott at 334.
Johnson (Lexington, Mass.) fired a 42 on the back nine to finish at 90, while Stekler (Avon, Conn.) followed a 43 over the first half with a 47, tying with Johnson behind 25 other players. First-year Brad Rutkin (Great Neck, N.Y.) carded a 92 and senior Sean Thomas (Mississauga, Ontario) recorded a 95 to round out the scoring for Bates.
Bates next competes at the NESCAC Championship Fall Qualifier, to be played Sept. 29-30 at Brunswick (Maine) Golf Club.
