Freshmen lead men's golf at Colby Classic

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Bates first-year students Jay Bennett-Saltzman (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) and Matt Marcus (Newton, Mass.) combined for a best-ball 71 to lead the Bates men's golf team in the Colby Classic on Saturday at Waterville Country Club.

The Bobcats placed fourth among five teams at the one-day tournament, with a three-duo aggregate score of 225. 

Thomas Spagnola and Eric Giesler combined for a 67 in leading Bowdoin to the team win. The Polar Bears had a score of 209 to win the tourney by 10 strokes over Colby (219). University of New England was at 221 for third place.

The Bates men's team returns to Waterville next Sunday, Oct. 12, to play Colby and Bowdoin in the CBB Tournament.
