Men's golf team's Bennett-Saltzman, McLoughlin win Colby Classic

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates men's golf team boasted the top two pairings out of nine overall on Sunday at the Colby Classic, a best-ball tournament held at Waterville Country Club.

Sophomore Jay Bennett-Saltzman (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) and first-year Liam McLoughlin (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) combined to shoot a 69, three strokes ahead of the runners-up, Bates first-year teammates Nick Grano (Sarasota, Fla.) and Joey Sallerson (Chicago, Ill.), who carded a 72. The tournament included players from Colby, UMaine-Presque Isle and Thomas College.

Bates junior Sam Mellert (Hanover, N.H.) and sophomore Ben Rollins (North Haven, Conn.) combined to shoot a 75, fifth-best in the field.

The Bobcats' season concludes with the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships, held Oct. 25-26 at Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts.
