BREWSTER, Mass. -- The Bates men's golf team combined to shoot a four-man score of 324 on Monday at the 83rd annual tournament, as the Bobcats finished 11th out of 20 Division III teams at the tournament, up from 20th place in each of the past two years.
Senior captain Bennett Saltzman (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) led the Bobcats on the second day, shooting a 6-over-par 72 at The Captains Starboard Course for a two-day score of 160, tying for 42nd place out of 94 players.
Senior Spencer Pierce (Winnetka, Ill.) led the Bobcats over the two days with a cumulative score of 153, carding an 80 Monday after Sunday's scorching round of 73 had him tied for third place. Pierce finished with 25 pars over the two days, tying for the fourth most in the field. He also recorded one of nine eagles in the tournament.
Sophomore Julien Lewin (Seattle, Wash.) tied for 67th place with a two-day score of 165, and sophomore Andrew Garcia-Bou (Easthampton, N.Y.) tied for 70th place at 166. Garcia-Bou carded four birdies for the tournament, tying for 13th in that category.
Bates' two-day score of 644 was only a stroke behind Salem State for 10th place. Husson won at 586. Bates finished two strokes ahead of both Southern Maine and Suffolk.
