HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates College junior Chris Wilson (Brewer, Maine) was named to the 2008-09 Maine All-State Second Team by the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association, the MMBCWA announced on Friday.
It is the first All-State honor and second postseason honor for Wilson, a 6-0 point guard and one of the team's three captains. Last month he was named to the NESCAC All-Conference Second Team.
Wilson led the Bobcats in scoring (11.9 points per game), assists (4.4 apg), free throw percentage (.857), three-pointers (37) and steals (23) while also pulling down 4.1 rebounds per game, ranking third on the team in that category. Wilson ranked 17th in the conference in scoring, second in assists, second in free throw percentage, 15th in three-pointers and ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.35). In conference games, Wilson averaged 13.3 points and 4.4 assists per game while hitting 3-pointers at a .444 clip.
With Wilson as Bates' primary ballhandler and playmaker, the Bobcats went 13-12 overall in Jon Furbush's debut season as the team's head coach, earning the No. 6 seed in the NESCAC Championship with a 4-5 conference record.
Wilson was named the Maine State Player of the Week by the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association on Feb. 10 after averaging 19.5 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game while leading Bates to a 54-53 win over Trinity and a narrow 71-66 loss to nationally-ranked Amherst, in which he scored a career-high 24 points.
