HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates senior Brian Ellis received recognition Wednesday as a member of the NESCAC Men's Basketball All-Conference Second Team, the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced.
Ellis (Braintree, Mass.), who was named to the All-NESCAC First Team last season, becomes Bates' first multiple-time All-NESCAC honoree since Zak Ray '06 and Rob Stockwell '06. Ellis was also the NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2008.
The 6-foot-5 forward averaged a career-high 17.5 points per game this season, ranking fourth in the conference in scoring. Ellis was seventh in the league in field goal percentage (.526) and 13th in free-throw percentage (.748) as well. Ellis was also third on the team in rebounding (4.5 rpg), second in assists (2.2 apg), second in blocked shots (0.4 bpg) and third in steals (0.9 spg).
Ellis was named NESCAC Player of the Week on Nov. 29 after scoring a career-high 33 points against Southern Maine. Ellis scored in double figures in 21 of the 22 games in which he played. Other season highlights included 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a Dec. 4 win over Bowdoin, and scoring 23 and 21 points on back-to-back days against two top-10 nationally ranked teams, Williams and Middlebury.
A two-time team captain, Ellis finished his career at No. 8 on Bates' all-time scoring list, with 1,370 points. In 96 games in a Bobcat uniform, he averaged 14.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, with a .520 field goal percentage.
