WATERVILLE, Maine -- Junior Ed Bogdanovich had career highs of 22 points and 14 rebounds -- more than half of Colby's scoring output and nearly half of the Mules' rebounding total -- as the Bates men's basketball team rolled to a 63-36 win at Colby on Saturday, in the teams' non-conference matchup.

The rivals will meet again in their NESCAc conference home opener at Bates on Jan. 13 at 8pm. Bates plays another non-conference game against its other chief rival, Bowdoin, on Sunday at 1pm; that game can be followed via webcast and live stats.

The Bobcats (5-2) won their fourth straight game despite shooting a modest 36.7 percent from the field, as they limited the Mules (3-5) to 26.5% shooting and outrebounded them by a 49-29 margin.

Bogdanovich (Portland, Maine) shot 6-of-9 from the field and hit 10-of-11 free throws, both career-high numbers from the charity stripe, and also snagged a career-high two steals. Senior John Squires (Swampscott, Mass.) also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Junior Mark Brust (Duxbury, Mass.) was the only other Bobcat to score more than six points in the game, with nine. Sophomore Luke Matarazzo (Shelton, Conn.) dished out five assists.

The Bobcats held the Mules to just two points over the final 5:29 of the first half to take the 19-point halftime margin at 35-16. With the score 40-21 with 17:21 to play, Bates went on a 17-0 run over more than 10 minutes of play to take a 57-21 lead, with seven of those points scored by Bogdanovich and four by Brust.
