LEWISTON, Maine – First-year Marcus Delpeche led four Bobcats in double figures with 13 points as Bates College men's basketball rolled past the University of Maine at Presque Isle, 78-53, on Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Bobcats (10-7) took a 54-26 lead into halftime and built a lead as large as 40 points over the Owls (7-9) in the second half.

Delpeche (Wilmington, Del.) shot 6-of-6 from the floor while twin brother and fellow first-year Malcolm Delpeche (Wilmington, Del.) recorded 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting. Junior Billy Selmon (Atlanta, Ga.) posted 12 points hitting 3-of-6 shots from behind the arc, and senior Luke Matarazzo (Shelton, Conn.) netted 11 points.

For UMPI, sophomore Chase Vicaire (Mattawamkeag, Maine) registered a game-high 15 points, first-year Sean Manganti (Temecula, Calif.) had 11, and classmate Thiago Conceicao tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Bobcats captured a 25-10 edge just less than 10 minutes into the game with a pair of dunks from Marcus Delpeche highlighting the contest's opening stretch. The Owls could not trim their lead under double figures the rest of the way.

Leading 36-24 with 4:41 to play in the first half, Bates closed the period on an 18-2 run to bring a 54-26 advantage into the locker room with Selmon knocking down two 3-pointers during the stretch.

Bates took its first lead of greater than 30 points when Malcolm Delpeche made a basket to give the hosts a 61-30 edge just under three minutes into the second stanza.

The team pushed its lead to 40, 76-36, at the 8:31 mark after a free throw from senior Derek Murphy (Lowell, Mass.). Prior to that foul shot, Murphy canned a 3-pointer and assisted on the Bobcats' three previous made field goals which included Marcus Delpeche's third slam of the night.

The Owls closed the game on a 17-2 spurt over the contest's final seven minutes with Manganti supplying eight of UMPI's points during the run.

Next, Bates returns to NESCAC action at Wesleyan on Friday at 8 p.m. while UMPI plays at Eastern Maine CC on Thursday at 3 p.m.
