Brent Morin '08
Justin Simon '08
HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates juniors Justin Simon and Brent Morin were each named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference's all-conference Second Team, the NESCAC announced Wednesday. Morin makes the team for the second consecutive year, while Simon makes it for the first time.
Simon (Canaan, N.H.) proved to be one of the most lethal attackmen in the Northeast in 2007, scoring a team-high and career-high 26 goals with two assists despite missing three of the Bobcats' 12 games. Simon's average of 2.36 goals per game ranks second in the conference, just a shade (.04) behind Tufts' Clem McNally.
Simon scored five goals in perhaps Bates' (6-6) best performance of the season, a 9-8 win over Bowdoin on April 25. He also notched hat tricks against Connecticut College, Trinity, Middlebury and Wesleyan.
Through three seasons, Simon has scored 75 goals and assisted on 12 others, and led the Bobcats in goals scored each year.
The Bobcats' top offensive midfielder for the second straight year, Morin (Hanover, N.H.) was Bates' third leading scorer, behind senior Matt Erisman (Nantucket, Mass.) and Simon, with 16 goals and seven assists. Morin scored four goals with four assists against Gordon on March 21, had a hat trick against Williams, and scored twice against both Colby and Tufts. Morin was also an All-NESCAC selection in men's soccer in 2005.
Bates finished the year at 6-6. The Bobcats ranked second in the conference in goals per game (10.08) and fifth in goals-against average (7.99).
