Men's lacrosse opens season at Keene State







KEENE, N.H. -- The Keene State men’s lacrosse team notched a 14-7 non-conference victory over Bates College in both teams' season debuts at chilly Owl Athletic on Thursday afternoon.

Freshman attack Griffin Meehan had a strong debut for the Owls, scoring four goals. Senior midfielder Casey Broadersen and junior midfielder Jamie Lesage chipped in with three goals each.

Senior attack Tyler Moore (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Evan Bagley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) had two goals each for Bates, who scored three times on man-up situations.

Adam Schraff (Glyndon, Md.), the Bobcats' first-year goalie, made eight saves.

Sophomore Alec Corliss, who was making his first start between the pipes for the Owls, kept the Bobcats off the board early with several point blank saves.  Corliss finished with 23 saves, helping make up for Bates' 58-30 advantage in shots taken.

Keene State led 3-1 after the first quarter and 6-3 at halftime.  Meehan scored two of the Owls’ three third quarter goals, putting them up 9-3. 

Juniors David Barrett (Chatham, N.J.) and senior Alex Cronstein (New York, N.Y.) each added a goal and an assist for the Bobcats. Junior Nick Sampson (Yarmouth, Maine) scored one goal, and junior Luke Strathmann (Newtown Square, Pa.) and sophomore Luke Charest (Freeport, Maine) each had assists.

Bates next plays at NESCAC conference rival Middlebury on Saturday at 1 p.m.
