LEWISTON, Maine — Bates two-sports standout Kevin Helm '12 gained his fourth postseason lacrosse honor on Wednesday, as he was named to the ECAC Division III New England All-Stars Second Team.
Last month, Helm (Norwell, Mass.) received the first All-America honor of his outstanding career, winning Honorable Mention laurels on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association 2012 Division III All-America team.
A two-time All-NESCAC defender as well as First Team All-NESCAC selection in football, Helm became Bates’ fourth All-American in men’s lacrosse, and the first since defender Ryan O’Connor ’06 in 2006.
Helm, a First-Team All-NESCAC selection in 2012 and a Second Team All-NESCAC pick in 2011, led a Bates defense that ranked seventh in the NESCAC in goals-against average, at 8.12 per game. A physical and disruptive force in the back, Helm led the Bobcats with 19 caused turnovers and collected 30 ground balls. He also surprised opponents this year by scoring his second career goal and adding the first two assists of his career.
Helm was also a First Team Defense selection at linebacker this past fall on the 2011 All-NESCAC Football Team, after leading the league in solo tackles for the second straight year.
In May, both Helm and first-year faceoff specialist Mac Jackson (Hood River, Ore.) were named to the NESCAC All-Conference and NEILA All-New England Division III teams.
