Morgan McDuffee '02 remembered Saturday at Tufts

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates men's lacrosse team will play Skidmore on Saturday at Tufts University's Bello Field, in a game whose significance goes far deeper than sports.

The teams, both with strong ties to Morgan McDuffee, Bates Class of 2002, are meeting in recognition of the 10-year anniversary of McDuffee losing his life while breaking up a fight in Lewiston.

Lacrosse Magazine has published an excellent story regarding how the game came about between the Bobcats and the Thoroughbreds, whose head coach is Jack Sandler '02, McDuffee's close friend, teammate and classmate at Bates. "Both [myself and Bates coach Peter Lasagna] on the same day sort of said, 'March 3 is March 3! We have to play this game,'" Sandler told the magazine.

The game has received significant advance attention from numerous other media outlets, including NCAA.com, The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald and Lexington Patch.

Opening faceoff is slated for 2:30pm.
