LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates men's soccer team senior midfielder Ryan March has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAAA) Scholar East All-Region team (Honorable Mention), an honor celebrating student-athletes who excel on and off the field.
March achieved the award due to his impact presence on the field for Bates, while also attaining a GPA of over 3.5 in his major, biology.
March played an anchor midfield role for the Bobcats, and played in every game in 2012. He was an important defensive presence for Bates and excelled in his role of keeping possession in the team system. He was a key presence in some of the highlights of the season, including a 2-0 win at Middlebury, and 0-0 draws against Connecticut College and Trinity.
March appeared in 52 career games for the Bobcats, more than any other player in his graduating class. He figured in 15 wins, and scored three goals.
"We are very proud of Ryan for achieving this award," said Bates head coach Stewart Flaherty. "Success at this level is not about choosing athletics over academics. It is about managing your time and pouring your energy into everything you do; Ryan exemplifies that."
