Weisskopf earns third All-America laurels at Individual Nationals

PHILADELPHIA -- Bates College junior Ricky Weisskopf reached All-America status for the third time in his three years on Friday, reaching the round of 16 at the College Squash Association Individual Nationals held at the University of Pennsylvania.

By defeating Yale University's Moshe Sarfaty in the first round of the Men's Potter (A) Division by a score of 9-1, 9-1, 9-0, Weisskopf (San Salvador, El Salvador) advanced to the round of 16 for the second straight year. All of the players in that round were guaranteed CSA All-America status. In the second round of the draw, Weisskopf lost to Harvard University's Ilan Oren, the fifth seed in the draw, by a score of 9-4, 9-6, 9-0.

Also competing for the Bates men at Individual Nationals were junior Sean Wilkinson (London, England) and first-year Kush Mahan (Gainesville, Fla.). Wilkinson lost to Harvard's Siddarth Suchde in the first round of Potter Division play, thus moving into the consolation bracket, where he lost to Trinity College's Supreet Singh in a five-set duel, 3-9, 5-9, 9-4, 9-2, 9-6.

Playing in the Men's Molloy (B) Division, Mahan prevailed over Northwestern University's Edward Gadient in five sets, 10-9, 6-9, 0-9, 9-3, 9-5 in the round of 32. Mahan lost to Williams's Tyler Kyle, 9-3, 9-2, 9-7, dropping into the consolation quarterfinals, where he fell to Yale's Colin Campbell in four sets, 6-9, 9-6, 10-8, 9-2.
