|Bates will compete for the Hoehn Cup as the No. 10 ranked team in the country.|
LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College men's squash team earned the 10th seed, or the second seed in the Hoehn (B) Division, in this weekend's College Squash Association Men's Team Nationals, which will be hosted by Harvard University.
In the first round of the tournament, the Bobcats (11-4) will take on 15th seed Brown University for the first time this season on Friday at 12 noon at Belmont Hill School in Belmont, Mass. Either Rochester or Williams will be the ninth seed in the tournament, or the top seed in the Hoehn Division.
Bates has had another excellent season with perhaps their deepest lineup ever. The Bobcats reached the top eight in a mid-season CSA poll. Led by three-time All-American and captain Ricky Weisskopf (San Salvador, El Salvador) and fellow senior captain Sean Wilkinson (London, England), the men had a strong start at 7-3, and earned the No. 2 seed in the NESCAC Men's Squash Championships behind Trinity. Sophomores Kush Mahan (Gainesville, Fla.) and Jordan Greenberg (Malvern, Pa.) have been a solid 3-4 combination for the Bobcats, and an influx of first-year talent, including Matt Marchisotto (New York, N.Y.), Will Katz (Bronxville, N.Y.) and Nick Echeverria (Washington, D.C.), has helped Bates rise in the rankings this season. Juniors Deacon Chapin (Cambridge, Mass.) and Marc Taggart (Skippack, Pa.) have also won their share of matches this season. Key matches for Bates this year include 5-4 wins over Williams and Cornell.
