Men's squash routs Colby in regular-season finale, 9-0

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College men's squash team dominated Colby College 9-0 Wednesday night in the team's regular-season home finale. The Bobcats (14-7), ranked No. 12 by the College Squash Association, won their fifth straight and snapped the No. 17-ranked Mules' (11-9) five-match winning streak by winning at each position without dropping a single game.

With the win, the Bobcats captured their eighth consecutive CBB title, having beaten Bowdoin 9-0 earlier in the season, and registered their 16th straight win over Colby.

Playing in their final home match, seniors Deacon Chapin (Cambridge, Mass.), Charlie Johnson (Atlanta, Ga.), captain Chip Russell (West Hartford, Conn.) and Marc Taggart (Skippack, Pa.) all won their matches in three games, at positions 9, 8, 6 and 7, respectively.

Bates travels to Princeton next weekend for the 2009 CSA Team Nationals, where the Bobcats will face No. 13 Navy in the first round. They look to repeat as Hoehn Cup ("B" Division) champions and finish ninth in the nation.
