Men's squash earns fourth place at NESCAC Championship

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bates men's squash team lost 6-3 to Middlebury on Sunday in the third-place match of the 2011 NESCAC Men's Squash Championship. For the third-seeded Bobcats, it is the first time in the tournament's five-year history to miss finishing in third place.

Claiming points for the Bobcats (15-9) were junior Bobby Burns (Greenwich, Conn.) at the No. 4 position on the ladder, sophomore R.J. Keating (Short Hills, N.J.) at No. 6 and sophomore Walter Cabot (Dover, Mass.) at No. 9. Burns was able to turn the tables in his match for a 3-0 win over Brian Cady, who defeated him 3-1 in Middlebury's 5-4 win over Bates on Jan. 21 at Yale.

Middlebury, the fourth seed in the tournament, rose to 10-7.

Bates has two matches remaining in the regular season before the College Squash Association Team Nationals at Harvard Feb. 25-27. The Bobcats play at Bowdoin on Friday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m., followed by a home match against Colby on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 12 p.m.
