Keating, Bedell win for men's squash at Columbia

NEW YORK -- Bates juniors R.J. Keating and Eric Bedell both won their individual matches as the Bobcats men's squash team fell 7-2 to host Columbia University on Sunday.

The Lions, named the most improved team last season and now in their first year as a varsity team at Columbia, won at the top two positions on the ladder as well as at positions 5 through 9. Keating (Short Hills, N.J.) outlasted Kyul Rhee at No. 3 in what became a marathon match, 11-8, 11-6, 6-11, 6-11, 11-6. Bedell went 2-0 on the weekend following Saturday's point at Franklin & Marshall, with a 3-0 win over Danial Saleem at No. 4.

Bates (2-5) returns to action on Jan. 7 with a home match against the U.S. Naval Academy.
