Men's squash overpowers Hamilton, 8-1

CLINTON, N.Y. -- The No. 19 men's squash team had little trouble defeating No. 24 Hamilton in a NESCAC match Sunday afternoon, with a final score of 8-1 in the Bobcats' favor, before falling 9-0 to No. 6 Cornell.

Senior Bobby Burns (Greenwich, Conn.) continued his strong play in the No. 1 position for Bates against the host Continentals, defeating Hamilton's Cooper Veysey in three straight sets (11-6, 11-6, 11-5).

Sophomore Kristian Muldoon (Paget, Bermuda) and junior David Born (Westbrook, Maine) kept things interesting for the Bobcats, pushing their games to four and five sets, respectively. Muldoon started off strong with a 2-0 lead on Marin Bawden before dropping the third set 1-11. Muldoon finished the game with a close 11-9 win in the fifth set. Born proved to be the longest game of the day in the No. 7 spot in the ladder, extending to all five sets, including a tiebreaker in the second. Peter Harrison prevailed in the final set, giving Hamilton the win (11-3, 11-13, 9-11, 11-6, 11-8).

Juniors R.J. Keating (Short Hills, N.J.), Eric Bedell (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Walter Cabot (Dover, Mass.) first-years Andy Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.), Jason Shrubb (Hamilton, Bermuda), and Nabil Saleem (Alpharetta, Ga.) all recorded 3-0 victories for the Bobcats.

Bates returns home on Jan. 25 to take on NESCAC opponent Bowdoin at the Bates Squash Facility.
