Abdel Khalek, Shrubb win sets at No. 3 Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bates men's squash team's five-match win streak was snapped by No. 3 Harvard on Wednesday night at the Murr Center, as the Crimson swept the Bobcats 9-0.

The Crimson is now 7-0 in 2012-13, while Bates falls to 6-2, following its first match since Dec. 1.

Bates first-year standout Ahmed Abdel Khalek (Cairo, Egypt) suffered his first collegiate loss, but was one of two Bobcats to win a set, and he did it against the defending College Squash Association individual national champion and Harvard No. 1 Ali Farag, who bested his fellow Egyptian Abdel Khalek, 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 12-10, 11-7), to improve to 3-0 on the season and 19-0 in his career. Abdel Khalek is now 4-1 at the No. 1 spot for Bates.

Sophomore Jason Shrubb (Hamilton, Bermuda) picked up Bates' other set win, in a 3-1 loss to Harvard senior co-captain Jason Michas at the No. 8 position.

Bates next plays at No. 2 Trinity on Saturday at 2pm.
