Men's squash plays tough in loss at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- For the second day in a row, Bates first-year phenom Ahmed Abdel Khalek kept the No. 14 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team from being swept, although the Bobcats played many close individual matches in an 8-1 loss at No. 12 Williams on Sunday.

Abdel Khalek (Cairo, Egypt) won in straight sets over Williams No. 1 Nick Marks, 11-6, 12-10, 12-10, moving to 6-1 on the season individually.

Other competitive matches for the Bobcats included senior R.J. Keating's (Short Hills, N.J.) five-set loss to Alexander Greaves-Tunnell at No. 4, and senior David Born's (Westbrook, Maine) five-set setback in the exhibition match. Sophomore Andy Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) came back from a set down to assume a 2-1 lead over Jack Ervasti at No. 5, but Ervasti recovered to win 12-10, 3-11, 10-12, 11-5, 11-6.

Bates (6-4, 1-2 NESCAC) will host NESCAC opponent Amherst on Tuesday at 6pm in the Bobcats' home opener. (Video)
