Men's tennis battles it out with Bowdoin

LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 22 nationally ranked Bates College men's tennis team fell 9-0 to rival 11th-ranked Bowdoin on Thursday at the Wallach Tennis Center. The Polar Bears (9-2, 5-0 NESCAC) swept the doubles portion of the match in a trio of close matches, then prevailed in every singles match despite several close scores to win their seventh straight match.

At No. 2 singles, Oscar Pena outlasted Bates junior Amrit Rupasinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) 6-3, 6-7(3), 10-6, and at No. 4 the Polar Bears' Josh Cranin won in another tiebreaker over Bates junior captain Ryan Mannelly (New Canaan, Conn.), 6-4, 3-6, 10-3.

Bates (7-3, 2-3 NESCAC) next plays at Hamilton on April 19 at 11 a.m.
