MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Bates College men's tennis team took a 3-0 lead in doubles play and went on to cruise to an 8-1 NESCAC victory at Wesleyan University on Sunday.
The No. 29 nationally ranked Bobcats (10-5, 4-3 NESCAC) have two matches remaining in the regular season, both against conference opponents. They'll play at Bowdoin on Friday at 3 p.m., then host Tufts next Sunday at 12 p.m.
The host Cardinals dropped to 9-10 overall and 1-8 in the NESCAC.
Bates didn't allow the opposition more than two games in any of the doubles matches. In singles play, Bates senior Max Berger came back from a set down to beat Michael Piderit at second singles, 1-6, 6-0, 6-1. First-year Matt Bettles (Taunton, England) and senior Michael Reiss (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) won in straight sets at third and fourth singles, respectively. First-year Robert Crampton (Wilton, Conn.) and senior Zach Fenno (Armonk, N.Y.) won at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, in pro set scoring.
