Berg goes 2-0 for men's tennis at No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Bates sophomore Timmy Berg (Bradenton, Fla.) went 2-0 against the fifth-ranked men's tennis team in Division III, highlighting the No. 26 Bobcats' competitive 7-2 loss at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday.

Berg teamed up with first-year Pierre Planche (Natick, Mass.) to rout CMS's Robert Erani and Zhenya Pereverzin at No. 2 doubles. Bates nearly got the best of CMS at first doubles, too, where juniors Matt Bettles (Taunton, England) and Rob Crampton (Wilton, Conn.) fell 8-6 to Alex Lane and Warren Wood.

At No. 1 singles, Berg outdueled Lane, the fourth-ranked singles player in Division III, for a 7-5, 6-4 victory.

Bates (0-3) next plays at Babson on March 2 at 3:30pm.
