LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 21 nationally raked Bates men's tennis team rolled to an impressive 9-0 victory over rival Colby on Monday in Merrill Gymnasium, outscoring the Mules by an aggregate 24-7 score in doubles play and 72-18 in singles.
Bates senior Rob Crampton (Wilton, Conn.) was in top form, dominating Jason Ottomano at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1 after teaming with fellow two-time All-American senior Matt Bettles (Taunton, England) for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Ottomano and Luke Martin.
Junior Timmy Berg (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Pierre Planche (Natick, Mass.) followed suit, both allowing their opponent only one game in singles wins at 3 and 4, respectively, after teaming up on an 8-1 pasting of Matt Carroll and Jack Bryant at second doubles.
Sophomore Henry Lee (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) and junior Ben Bogard (Lido Beach, N.Y.) were also both 2-0 on the day.
Bates (4-4, 1-1 NESCAC) next plays at No. 8 Johns Hopkins on Saturday at 1pm.
