No. 25 men's tennis drops 6-3 decision to No. 17 Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – No. 25 Bates College men's tennis played evenly with No. 17 University of Mary Washington in singles competition but fell 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground Athletic Complex.

The Eagles (12-2) captured a 3-0 lead after doubles action and split the six singles matches with the Bobcats (3-6).

Senior Timmy Berg (Bradenton, Fla.) earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Tyler Carey at first singles while junior Pierre Planche (Natick, Mass.) topped Stratton Gilmore 7-5, 6-3 at second singles, and classmate Henry Lee (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) rounded out the team's scoring with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win on singles court No. 5.

First-year Patrick Ordway (Falmouth, Maine) pushed Andrew Curtis to three sets at the No. 6 singles spot but lost 7-6 (8), 3-6, 6-3.

Next, Bates concludes its Virginia trip with a match against North Carolina Wesleyan tomorrow at Mary Washington at 10 a.m.
