No. 24 men's tennis shuts out Camels 9-0

LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 24 nationally ranked Bates men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 NESCAC victory over Connecticut College Sunday afternoon at the Wallach Tennis Center.

The win evens Bates' record at 6-6 overall (2-2 NESCAC), while the visiting Camels drop to 3-11 (0-4 NESCAC). Bates is currently ranked 10th in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, while Conn College is 19th.

Bates didn't drop a set in singles play and swept doubles play as well. 

Junior Chris Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and sophomore Ben Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) dfeated Jonathan Kraiger and Will Cannon 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while junior Josh Leiner (Baltimore, Md.) and first-year Josh Quijano (Los Angeles, Calif.) won by the same score at third doubles over Johnny Cissel and Patrick Farrell. At second doubles, juniors Fergus Scott (Wellington, New Zealand) and Pat Ordway (Falmouth, Maine) defeated Daniel Maffa and Charlie Williams by an 8-6 score.

Singles matches were all Bates, led by Rosen's 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kraiger at No. 1 and Ellis's 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Williams at No. 2. Scott defeated Maffa 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, Ordway defeated Cannon 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Quijano won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 over Ethan Hecker, and junior Brent Feldman (Waccabuc, N.Y.) defeated James Wright 6-4, 6-0 at sixth singles.

Bates will next play a NESCAC match at Wesleyan on Wednesday at 3pm.
