INDIANAPOLIS -- Bates College junior Ben Rosen will compete for the second year in a row in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship, as the tournament's 32-player field was announced Wednesday.

Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) and his doubles partner, Bates senior Chris Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) were also named third alternates in the 16-team Men's Doubles Championship tournament.

Rosen became an All-American a year ago, finishing his sophomore season with the Bobcats by advancing to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Men's Singles Championship, giving him an individual record of 19-7 as Bates' No. 1 singles player. Players who reach the tournament's Round of 16 earn All-America honors.

After falling to the opponents' No. 1 player in Bates' first four matches of the 2017 season, Rosen has been on a tear. His singles record is 12-1 since March 24, the only loss being a 6-3, 7-5 setback to Wesleyan's Steven Chen. Only two of those 12 victories went to a third set.

For the NCAA Division III individual championships, the national committee selects seven singles players and three doubles teams from each of the four regions. Additionally, the committee then selects the remaining four singles players and four doubles team berths from a national at-large pool. The individual championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

The Division III team championship will take place May 22-24, and the individual championships May 25-27, both at The Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and will be hosted by the University of the South and the Chattanooga Sports Commission.

The draw for the individual championship will be done by the men's tennis committee and will be released on the last day of the team championship.
