Gauthier claims third place in weight throw at ECACs

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Junior co-captain Noah Gauthier took third place in the men's weight throw Saturday at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University.


Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) notched a top throw of 57 feet, 9.75 inches to finish behind only Jake Basher of Brockport State (61-11.75) and Mike Burgstrom of Rochester (58-6.75).

Bates finished in a four-way tie for 19th place out of 55 scoring teams at ECACs with 15 points, along with Coast Guard, Alfred and CCNY.

On Friday, Bates junior co-captain John Miley (Hanson, Mass.) took second place in the pentathlon, scoring 3,312 points to finish second only to John Daly of Plattsburgh State. Miley won the final event, the 1,000 meters, in 2:45.36, and passed two competitors who had been leading him in points in the 1,000.

Also on Friday, Gauthier claimed eighth place in the shot put with a heave of 47 feet, 11.75 inches.
