Gauthier leads men's track team vs. MIT, Coast Guard

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College men's indoor track and field team opened its 2007 season in earnest on Saturday with a triangular meet against MIT and Coast Guard at the Walter Slovenski Track. MIT won the team score with 165 points, followed by the Bobcats with 101 and Coast Guard with 88.

Junior co-captain Noah Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) won two events for the Bobcats, taking first in the shot put (46-11.5) and the weight throw (56-3.75).

Other event winners for Bates included senior co-captain Matt Capone (Auburn, Maine), who won the 55-meter dash in 6.69 seconds; junior Emmanuel Drabo (Burkina Faso), who won the triple jump at 43-5.25, and first-year Noah Glick (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.), who won the high jump in 6-1.25.

Bates next competes at the Tufts Invitational next Saturday.
