McNeil named NESCAC's top rookie in men's track and field

HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates first-year Rich McNeil was named Most Outstanding Rookie Performer, as the NESCAC Track and Field All-Conference teams were announced on Thursday.
McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) earned the honor by placing second in the hammer throw, third in the discus throw and fourth in the shot put at the NESCAC Track and Field Championships last weekend at Middlebury College.
Also earning All-NESCAC honors, which go to the top three finishers in each event, were senior Matt Capone (Auburn, Maine) in the 4x400-meter relay, junior Noah Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) in both the shot put and the hammer throw, first-year Noah Glick (Center Tuftonboro, N.H.) in the 4x400 relay, junior Matt Lopez (Lexington, Mass.) in the hammer throw, McNeil in the discus and hammer, senior Sam Thomas (Richmond, Va.) in the 400-meter dash and the 4x400 relay, and senior Andrew Tibbetts (Dedham, Mass.) in the 4x400 relay.
