HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates senior All-American Ethan Waldman became the third member of the Bates men's track and field team to win NESCAC Men's Field Performer of the Week honors, announced Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Waldman (Playa del Rey, Calif.) helped Bates to its ninth team championship in the Maine State Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Russell Street Track, claiming third place in both the shot put at 48-1.75 and the discus throw at 126-3. Waldman also finished fourth in both the hammer throw at 154-1 and in the , scoring 16 team points for the Bobcats.
Waldman, who placed sixth at indoor nationals in the shot put in March, broke the Bates team record in the outdoor shot put earlier this season at 54-4.75. That mark ranks him fifth in Division III so far this season.
Bates has claimed three out of the five NESCAC Men's Field Performer of the Week awards so far this season, following sophomore David Pless (Atlanta, Ga.) and senior Chris Murtagh (Rowley, Mass.).
