NEW ORLEANS -- Three members of Bates College's 2012 men's outdoor track and field team were named to the USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Track & Field team, announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Winning the All-Academic nod for Bates, by virtue of maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 and by qualifying for the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships, were David Hardison '13 (South Portland, Maine), Ben Levy '14 (Belmont, Mass.) and Andrew Wortham '13 (Newton, Mass.). Hardison competed in the men's decathlon at NCAAs in Claremont, Calif., in May, finishing 19th, while Levy ran the 400-meter leg of Bates' third-place distance medley relay team at the NCAA indoor championships in Grinnell, Iowa, in March.

Wortham competed in two NCAA Championships in the past academic year: he helped Bates finish seventh in the country at the 2011 cross country championships in Winneconne, wis., finishing 49th out of 279 runners overall and second among his Bobcat teammates. And at outdoor NCAAs in May Wortham finished 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. An English major, Wortham received 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Division III Academic All-District First Team Track/Cross Country Team honors in May.

The three Bobcats were among 226 All-Academic selections nationwide, including 22 from NESCAC institutions.
