LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates senior David Pless has arrived at a sweet spot in an amazingly accomplished collegiate athletic career: three NCAA championships, eight All-America awards and a bevy of team titles and accomplishments are already tucked away, and one final, hopeful season has just begun.
Lewiston Sun Journal columnist Kalle Oakes captured the Bobcat champion, now just two months away from his graduation, ruminating about his past and future in a poignant story, "Pless putting gold stamp on career," published in the newspaper's March 31 edition.
Among the column's many interesting revelations: "'My favorite memory is my junior year, we won the indoor New England championship. That was the first time Bates ever won it. It was the most phenomenal feeling.'"
This isn’t the first time Pless has received significant media attention, even from Oakes and the Sun Journal. Most recently he was profiled in the Portland Press Herald by columnist Steve Solloway. Last year Pless was one of Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd,” and he was profiled in his hometown Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
