LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates men's indoor track and field team is ranked eighth in the country, and first among teams in the Northeast, in the preseason Division III national team computer rankings released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Only eight teams from the Midwest, led by No. 1 North Central (Ill.), are ahead of Bates The Bobcats were ranked ninth in the final computer rankings of 2012 and fourth in the country in NCAA points scored at the combined NCAA championships for indoor and outdoor track and field and cross country.
Bates' men's and women's track and field teams open the 2013 indoor season on Saturday at the Tufts Invitational, which will feature teams from Amherst, Bates, Bentley, Colby, Emmanuel, Fitchburg State, Keene State, Lasell, Lesley, Regis, UMass Dartmouth, UMass Lowell, and Worcester State. It will be a scoring meet and begin at 11am.
