HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates senior David Pless captured his third Field Performer of the Week awardin NESCAC Men's Track & Field on Monday, announced by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
The eight-time All-American and three-time NCAA champion was cited for his performance at last weekend's Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University. Pless (Atlanta, Ga.) defeated 13 other competitors, including 10 Division I athletes, in the shot put, with a winning mark of 56-9.25. He was also second in the discus throw -- at 166-1, just an inch shy of first place -- and in Friday's hammer throw competition, Pless took fifth place among 12 athletes overall, fourth among collegians, at 187-1.
Teams with athletes competing at Princeton included: Adelphi, Bates, Binghamton, Boston College, Bowdoin, Brown, Bryn Mawr, Buffalo, Columbia, Connecticut College, Cornell, Cortland, Dartmouth, Georgian Court, Gwynedd-Mercy, Harvard, Haverford, Iona, Ithaca, Kent State, Kutztown, La Salle, Lincoln (Pa.), Marietta, Middlebury, Monmouth, Monroe College, Moravian, NJIT, Penn, Plattsburgh, Rhode Island, Rider, Rowan, Rutgers, Rutgers-Camden, Sacred Heart, S. Connecticut State, St. John’s, St. Peter’s, Swarthmore, Syracuse, TCNJ, Tufts, UMass-Lowell, Vassar, Villanova, Wesleyan, Widener, Yale, York (Pa.). In addition, more than 25 track & field clubs had athletes competing.
