WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Junior Adedire Fakorede provided all of the Bates men's track and field team's scoring on Saturday at the all-divisions Open New Englands, placing fourth in the discus throw as the only Division III athlete among the top 11 in the event.

Bates' five team points tied Sacred Heart University for 27th place out of 37 teams from all three NCAA divisions, who scored points for top-eight performances. The University of Rhode Island won the meet with 163 points.

The two-time All-American Fakorede (Newark, N.J.) sent the discus 161 feet and 4 inches on his second and best attempt of the day, over two feet beyond fifth-place Shane Corbett of the University of Maine. Dartmouth's Lucas Ribeiro won at 169-11. Fakorede also placed 11th in the shot put (49-1) and 15th in the hammer throw (166-8).

Bates had several other high finishes at the meet that didn't net team points, including a new personal record for junior pole vaulter Garrett Anderson (Raleigh, N.C.), who on Friday cleared the bar at 15-5, or 4.70 meters, 20 centimeters beyond his personal best mark from 2015. Anderson moves up on Bates' all-time performance list, from a tie for fifth place into a tie for third place, with Sam Goldstein '12. Anderson placed 11th in the event.

Senior Patrick Griffin (Harvard, Mass.) came within 0.02 of the 800-meter personal record he established last week at the New England Division III Championships, placing 12th in 1:52.47. Junior Rob Flynn (Bedford, N.H.) had a personal-best time of 1:53.24, finishing 16th.

Sophomore Tyler Harrington (Haverhill, Mass.) placed 10th in the javelin throw (192-2).

Senior Blake Downey (Eliot, Maine) placed 11th in the decathlon with 5,383 points.

Bates will compete Thursday at the MIT Final Qualifying Meet, the last meet before NCAA Division III Championships, taking place May 25-27 in Geneva, Ohio.
