Four men's track athletes receive USTFCCCA All-Academic honors

NEW ORLEANS -- Four student-athletes from the Bates men's track and field team earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2016-17 track & field seasons, announced Friday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Bates' awardees were junior Garrett Anderson (Raleigh, N.C.), senior Patrick Griffin (Harvard, Mass.), senior Mike Horowicz (Montclair, N.J.) and sophomore Michael Somma (Colts Neck, N.J.).

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards: Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship; Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.

Anderson ranked among the top 50 athletes in Division III in the pole vault. Griffin competed in both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Track & Field Championships, and was a teammate with Somma in the indoor distance medley relay. Horowicz ranked among the top 50 in Division III in the 10,000-meter run.
