HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates College senior Doug Brecher (Waban, Mass.) was named the NESCAC Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week, the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced on Monday.

The award comes after Brecher took third place out of 296 runners overall on Saturday at the ECAC Division III Cross Country Championships, hosted by Williams. The Bobcats' co-captain finished the 8-kilometer course at Mount Greylock High School in 26:48.0, good for All-ECAC honors.

Brecher led the Bates men's team to third place out of 43 teams. The Bobcats scored 101 points, beating out Amherst (111) for third. Williams won the meet with 85 points, followed by St. Vincent (Pa.) with 89.

Bates competes close to home next Saturday at the New England Division III Championships, hosted by the University of Southern Maine at Twinbrook Recreation Area in Cumberland.
