Men's cross country 32nd at Open New Englands







BOSTON -- The Bates College women's cross country team submitted a solid and balanced effort on Saturday at the all-divisions Open New England Championships, held at Franklin Park, finishing in 32nd place out of 47 teams overall.

The Bobcats were 12th among Division III teams, behind Fairfield for 31st and ahead of Connecticut College.

Junior Devin Dilts (Roscoe, Ill.) paced the Bobcats by placing 73rd out of 320 runners overall, covering the 8K course in a time of 25:54. The Bobcats were without senior captain Doug Brecher (Waban, Mass.). First-year Ryan Rice (Franklin, Mass.) was next for Bates in 180th (26:52), followed by senior Conor Welch (Newburyport, Mass.) in 192nd (27:00), first-year Andrew Wortham (Newton, Mass.) in 202nd (27:05), junior Tom Esponnette (Auburn, Maine) in 211th (27:12), sophomore Sean Colligan (Stillwater, Minn.) in 236th (27:30) and sophomore Troy Calandra (San Francisco, Calif.) in 239th (27:32).

Bates was 16th in the sub-varsity race, led by first-year Eric Kimball (Manchester, Mass.) in 58th place overall (27:16).

Bates will next compete at the State of Maine Championships at Colby on Oct. 17 at 12 p.m.
